FAQ

How Does Rootine Work?

Rootine is simple, convenient, and 100% personalized. Here is how it works:

Step 1: Take the Lifestyle Quiz
Step 2: Take the DNA Test or Upload Your Ancestry / 23andme data
Step 3: Upload your blood / nutrient level data

We combine your DNA, blood level, and lifestyle factors (like diet), then custom-make your daily backs and ship them directly to your door.

Because one-size-fits all actually fits no one, and guessing what right just isn’t enough.

Can I Upload DNA From 23andMe / Ancestry.com?

Yes, you can use your raw data from either 23andMe or ancestry.com. Simply upload your data to your customer dashboard and we will analyze it and incorporate it into your new Rootine.

NOTE: Not all genetic tests are created equal. Depending on the test, you could be missing analysis on some genes that we analyze with our algorithm.

How Long Does It Take To Build My Vitamins?

The timeline to receive your personalized vitamins depends on how you provide your DNA data: (1) Complete an at-home DNA Test kit or (2) uploading data from 23andMe or Ancestry.com.

NEED THE DNA TEST KIT?  DNA analysis takes approximately 2 - 6 weeks once the sample has reached the lab. Once your results are available, we produce your vitamins and ship them direct to your door.

For the shortest processing time, make sure to complete your DNA test as soon as you receive it and follow all directions.

HAVE DNA DATA TO UPLOAD? The average time to receive your fully DNA-custom vitamins is 2 - 3 weeks from DNA Upload in your Member Dashboard.

Do I Need Personalized Vitamins?

Yes. Mass-market vitamins are designed with a “one-size fits-all” approach. This is a huge mistake and these multivitamins actually fit no one. Non-personalized vitamins do not take any of our inherent biological differences into account, which significantly influence our nutrient needs.

In fact, our research shows that, on average, if you take 20 different vitamins and minerals:

- One will be harmful
- Two will have no effect
- The rest will be incorrectly dosed

Differences in lifestyles, current nutrient blood levels, and genetics (your DNA) all play a role in the types and dosages of vitamins and supplements that will work best for YOUR unique body. We take this all into account when analyzing your data and creating a truly personalized multivitamin.

What Are Microbeads?

Our plant-based cellulose microbeads contain primarily natural & 100% vegetarian ingredients. No more horse pills. Each microbead is made of pure, raw ingredients, and coated with natural, sustainably-farmed beeswax. We focus on what you need and avoid unnecessary fillers, artificial colors, and other useless ingredients that big vitamin companies include in their vitamins.

How Does DNA Determine Nutrient Needs?

Genes (the blueprints for our body) control every function in your body, including how you use and absorb nutrients. Sometimes, genes have a slight mutation (i.e. change) that impact how they function. When this happens, corresponding vitamins and minerals are absorbed, metabolized, or utilized improperly by the body. In this case, we adjust dose or type of nutrient accordingly to bypass or support these inefficiencies.

DNA analysis can reveal the truth about what is happening with nutrients inside your body. You can discover which vitamins and minerals your body needs, and which dosages are best.

Why DNA, Blood, and Lifestyle Data?

Each of these points of data provide valuable information about your nutrient needs. They also provide context to the other data points and result in a comprehensive picture about what is going on inside your body. Combined, these three data points provide truly actionable information.

Example: An individual with a healthful diet takes a lifestyle quiz, and their results show a high intake of folate from the fruits and vegetables they regularly eat. However, their DNA test reveals mutations in their MTHFR gene. This gene produces an enzyme that converts dietary folate into its bioactive form. This is form that has biological action in the body. In this case, the lifestyle quiz would provide incomplete and misleading information about their folate needs. Even though the individual is consuming adequate folate, they are having trouble converting it into the active form and are thus deficient in bioactive folate (called 5-MTHF). The data from the DNA Test provides context to the lifestyle data, resulting in a completely different nutrient recommendation than if the lifestyle quiz stood on its own. We take this into account when choosing nutrient forms and dosages to create your custom vitamins.

Other “Custom” Vitamin Brands vs. Rootine

THEM: Most other companies in the “custom” vitamin space only use a lifestyle quiz to pick pre-made, single nutrient pills and put them into a daily pack. This is certainly better than mass-market “one-size-fits-all” vitamins but it is not enough. Taking a lifestyle quiz is a great first step towards personalization, but lifestyle is only one part of the whole picture of you and often provides misleading information about your true nutrient needs with context provided by other data points. The information about what is happening inside your body at a molecular level is completing missing.

ROOTINE: To create a complete picture of your nutrient needs, we analyze your DNA, current nutrient blood levels, and lifestyle data. Each data point is incredibly valuable on its own and even more useful when used to provide context to the other data points. Plus, unlike most other “custom” vitamin companies that either "Yes, add" or "No, do not add" a nutrient pill to their pack (it’s all or none), we can calculate and provide the precise dosage for each vitamin and mineral in your pack. Now that is REAL personalization.
