The cheek-swab DNA test analyzes 52 gene variants that are scientifically proven to impact nutrient needs. The report will show you which of these genes work well and which don't. You'll learn which nutrients you need more of or less of, and which nutrients will will be helpful vs potentially harmful.

How do the tests work? 

Are DNA Test and Blood Nutrient Test are both completed at-home and in ~5 minutes. The DNA Test is a non-invasive cheek swab and the Blood Nutrient Test requires a painless finger prick and dried urine sample. These tests are analyzed in our licensed medical genetics laboratory that carries ISO 9001, 15189, and 22000 certifications. The results from these tests guide nutrient inclusion in your packs, including nutrient form and dose. The DNA test can also be used to generate in-depth nutrigenomic reports.

If you already have genetic data from 23andMe or Ancestry.com - or you have a recent blood test with nutrient values from your doctor - you can upload this data in your dashboard. More information on our complete FAQ page.

How long does it take?

From the time our lab receives your DNA Test or Blood Nutrient Test, analysis can take anywhere from 3-5 weeks based on the quality of your samples. If you've already taken a test from another genetic testing provider (23andMe or Ancestry.com), you can skip the wait by easily uploading your data in your dashboard and processing will occur (~48 hours). Once analysis is complete for either option, you can expect your vitamins to ship within 2 weeks.

Your data is 100% private - plain and simple. Rootine is not in the business of selling personal data or using it for any purpose other than making sure that your body gets a safe and effective dose of vital nutrients. Our industry-leading genetics laboratory is governed by some of the strictest data and medical privacy laws in the world.

Most doctors, clinics and labs can easily order a blood nutrient test for you, plus we've partnered with a leading at-home blood testing company and have an exclusive discount for Rootine members. All it takes is a quick finger-prick and you can order the test yourself, no doctor required. In your dashboard, you'll input the test results (we've made it easy) and the formula in your next shipment of Rootine will automatically adjust based on your most current nutrient levels. This allows Rootine to adapt over time and change with you as your nutrient needs change.

Jane learned that her previous iron supplement was poisoning her body.

Jane's genetic test revealed that she was a carrier of mutations in her HFE gene, found in about 1 in 200 people. The resulting genetic dysfunction made Jane's body absorb too much iron which can lead to iron overload and a disease called hemochromatosis. All iron was removed from Jane's formula.

Nicholas learned that he needed ~2x the vitamin D compared to the average.

Nicholas' genetic test showed a mutation in the VDR gene that reduces the binding of vitamin D to its receptor. He needs about two times the vitamin D to achieve normal levels of vitamin D receptor activation. Nicholas' vitamin D level was upped accordingly.

Jeremy learned that his sensitivity to dairy was genetic.

Jeremy had been avoiding dairy because it upset his stomach. This is due to a mutation in his LCT gene which prevents him from digesting lactose. The calcium dose in Jeremy's Rootine was increased to compensate.
